Voting in Johns Creek: Election Day, polling places and photo ID

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and you vote at your own assigned polling place.

Fulton County, not the city, runs voter registration and county, state and federal elections for Johns Creek voters. Early voting ended Friday, Oct. 30.

Voting on Tuesday, Nov. 3

• Polls are open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
• Vote at your assigned polling place. Look it up, with your sample ballot, on the state’s My Voter Page.
• Bring a photo ID.
• Early voting and the absentee drop boxes closed Friday, Oct. 30.
• You cannot turn in a mail ballot at your polling place.

Find your polling place

You must vote at your assigned polling place on Election Day, not at an early voting site. The state’s My Voter Page shows where it is. The city clerk’s municipal elections page points Johns Creek voters to the same tool. Polling places can change between elections, so check before you go.

If your status says “Challenged”

You can still vote. The county says the status means it needs to confirm your home address, so you get the right precinct ballot.

• You can email elections.voterregistration@fultoncountyga.gov before you go. The county says this helps but is not required.
• Poll workers can help when you arrive.
• If it cannot be settled on site, you will be offered a provisional ballot.

The county also says no voters are being removed from the roll because of this address review.

Photo ID

Georgia law requires photo ID to vote in person. The county’s voting FAQ lists these:

• a Georgia driver’s license, even if expired
• any valid state or federal government photo ID, including a free voter ID card
• a valid U.S. passport
• a valid employee photo ID from a government agency
• a valid U.S. military photo ID
• a valid tribal photo ID

If you have no driver’s license or state ID card, the county issues a free Georgia voter ID card at its election offices. It can also issue a temporary voter ID while you wait for the card.

Mail ballots: how to get yours in

A mail ballot must reach the county by Tuesday, Nov. 3. The drop boxes closed with early voting on Oct. 30. The county’s absentee page says mail ballots “may not be returned at your Election Day polling place.”

That leaves two routes:

• By mail to Fulton County Registration and Elections, Absentee Ballot Division, 5600 Campbellton Fairburn Road, Union City, GA 30213. Allow time for it to arrive.
• In person at a county election office. The nearest is the North Annex, 7741 Roswell Road, Room 251, in Sandy Springs, about 10 miles southwest. The county asks voters to call 404-612-7020 to confirm office hours.

If your mail ballot never came, the county says you can vote in person at your polling place instead.

If you missed the Oct. 5 deadline, registering by Monday, Nov. 2, lets you vote in a federal runoff if there is one. Register through the state’s online voter registration site.

City elections in Johns Creek

City races run on their own cycle. The city clerk’s municipal elections page says:

• Johns Creek elections are nonpartisan, and every council seat is elected at large.
• The mayor and council members serve staggered four-year terms.
• Elections come every two years: Posts 2, 4 and 6 in one, then Posts 1, 3 and 5 and the mayor.
• The mayor and council members can serve no more than three consecutive terms.

What it means for you

• Vote Tuesday, Nov. 3, between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., at the polling place on your My Voter Page.
• Bring a photo ID. An expired Georgia driver’s license still counts.
• Still holding a mail ballot? Get it to the county by Nov. 3. The polling place will not take it.
