Medlock is the middle of Johns Creek: the neighborhoods and shopping centers around the crossing of Medlock Bridge Road and State Bridge Road, with two of the city’s three public high schools. It is one of the eight Community Areas in the city’s comprehensive plan, named for the road, and it takes in much of the historic Warsaw community, which the plan says began as a settlement while the land was still Cherokee territory.

Where it is
The comprehensive plan’s Medlock chapter shows the area on a map and does not describe its edges in words. On the city’s Community Areas map layer it covers about 3,258 acres in the center of the city: south of Johns Creek North and Tech Park, southwest of Shakerag, east of Ocee and Autrey Mill and north of River Estates. Medlock Bridge Road runs north and south through it; State Bridge Road and Abbotts Bridge Road run east and west.
The plan counts 16,298 residents in 2022, the most of any Community Area, about a fifth of the city. It names St. Ives, Medlock Bridge and Sugar Mill as the three main subdivisions, with shopping centers along State Bridge and Medlock Bridge Roads. It calls the State Bridge and Medlock Bridge intersection the site of the city’s worst traffic congestion.
History in the plan: Medlock Bridge Road was a two-lane dirt road until it was paved in the late 1950s and widened to four lanes in 1993; the shopping centers came in the mid to late 1990s; and Northview High opened in 2001 and Johns Creek High in 2008. The city owns the Macedonia Cemetery, a 1.92-acre African American burial ground on the east side of Medlock Bridge Road near State Bridge Road.
Of the area’s 6,895 address points in the school district’s map data, 79% are in ZIP code 30097 and 21% in 30022. Mailing addresses often read “Duluth” or “Alpharetta,” but the area is inside Johns Creek city limits, so the city provides police, fire and road services.
